The Austin Aztex are Austin’s professional soccer team.

The Aztex will compete in USL after finishing a three year campaign in USL PDL as the most successful franchise, with a 31-7-6 record in that timespan. The vision of the Aztex is to bring Major League Soccer to the nation’s largest city without a major league sports franchise.

The organization was originally founded in 2011 in the USL PDL, to reestablish a team in Austin after the original Aztex team moved to Orlando. The team plays an exciting brand of soccer featuring elite local and national players. In all three years in USL PDL, the Aztex advanced to the Southern Conference Championship Game and had 13 players selected in the three previous MLS SuperDrafts.

The 2013 season culminated to the PDL Championship game, in which the Aztex defeated the Thunder Bay Chill in front of 4,253 fans at House Park. The Aztex finished the 2013 season with one of the top records in the league as well as individual accolades, including Coach of the Year (Paul Dalglish), PDL Most Valuable Player (Kris Tyrpak), and PDL Championship MVP (Sito Seoane). The Aztex finished the 2013 campaign with five consecutive single-game attendance records and were among the top ten highest-drawing teams in the league.

A priority the Aztex is also to develop players who will be promoted to higher levels of the sport. While the Aztex field a team that can compete for championships, it is also a priority to cultivate player talent by providing an experienced coaching staff, a professional environment, and high-level competition. To that instance the Aztex have a MLS affiliation with Columbus Crew SC, a cooperative agreement with Brazil’s Coritiba FC, and have partnered with Austin’s Lonestar SC with a focus on the USSF Development Academy.

The franchise is owned and operated by ATX SOCCER LLC, chaired by Rene Van De Zande, President and CEO of Emergo Group, team founder David Markley, VP of Technology Development for Fallbrook Technologies, Bobby Epstein of Prophet Capital, and Paul Thornton of TAG Touring
